I've found that in American English slang 'dope' as an adjective means superb, excellent, cool - is that how you understand it?

Yeah, that's right. But I'm pretty sure that only guys use it.

Yes, in certain contexts dope means awesome, cool etc. it's become popular in the uk since will.i.am said it a lot on The Voice - since then it's seen as an amusing way to express approval here.

So true about the in-person thing. He's mind blowingly sexy/handsome in person. It's almost like it's someone else who's on screen and in photos. Not that they are that dissimilar, but there's just something very different about the in-person him. It always seems that celebs are less appealing in person (shorter than expected, skin not as nice, whatever...), but I think the opposite is true with him.

I'm sure you're right but I think a lot of people expect Daniel to be taller than he is.

I believe, that's because his has that air and that presence, that's a bit larger then life and with all his insecurities, there is someting very assured about him. He is a living paradox.
