The year is 2002. The colouring is already there for Sylvia and Ted Hughes.

I think danielcraiss is right.

This one belongs to the backstage pictures serie The Half
from Simon Annand. It was in 1999

But this doesn't sum up somehow. Everywhere the Annand's pics are published they are datedin 1999.

A number was in 2002 and he was NOT dark haired in A number. Hair lenght was like that.

There can be no question that A Number was in 2002 (Sept-Nov) and he started to work on Sylvia during that time (Oct-Nov). The series of publicity pics that we have mostly seen can be from the beginning of the play's run with blond hair etc., but there are also pics with fans where he has dark hair (check em).

His hair in the spring of 1999 was dark, but much shorter than this (for Hotel Splendide). In the summer he did Some Voices and for the rest of the year appears to have been blonde with fairly long hair (although there are no pics after October as far as I know).

The Annand pics could theoretically have been taken in 1999, but he just did not look like that ever during 1999 (plus did no stage work), so I must assume they have the dates wrong...

It is really confusing. Even in Annands book the tags say 1999 and A Number. One should think that the author and the editor oh the book get it right. But A Number was in 2002.

Dunda, have you never caught blatant mistakes in printed books, in the news or other sources? :o The pics for the book were apparently collected from work done during a long period of time and mistakes in dates are easy to make. And for some time now, fact-checking has not been a priority...

Even researchers and scholars with reps for being extremely diligent and careful make mistakes every now and then.
