Watching the show. So far, I like the visuals but not the music.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I wasn't a fan of the opening ceremony but the athmosphere during the sport events was phenomenal. The audience always cheered for all contestants. Much better audience compared to Peking and Athen.

That film of Daniel Craig arriving at Buckingham Palace was one of the best-kept secrets of the opening ceremony. When we all first saw that white-haired lady sitting at her desk, which of us didn’t assume it was an actress? But then she turned round and it really was the Queen. This acting debut was probably one of the most remarkable moments of her 60-year reign.

NYT Olympics Live ‏@LondonLive

Prince Harry is in the house. But wondering where the Queen is tonight. Does she just go places when Daniel Craig is her escort? #London2012

Sweet. They're gonna shoot Queen Elizabeth out of a cannon into Daniel Craig's arms.

I wasn't up late last night but when a friend from work told me that my two ALL-TIME favourite bands (Queen and Muse) were at the Closing Ceremony, I had to come on-line to watch it!! 8) Absolutely MEGA!!! :jamming: Aside from Daniel doing his bit with the (actual) Queen, that was the highlight for me. I wasn't discounting the Olympics when I said on my blog that August was a dull month... I know it's been a huge event. I just prefer Music to Sport any day of the week!! 8)

Well Muse sang that awful Olympic song they have done and Queen were fronted by Jessie J which ruined it for me :)

The Queen Upsets Kate Middleton By Replacing Her As A 'Bond Girl'

The Duchess of Cambridge was allegedly meant to be the original Bond girl in Danny Boyle's opening ceremony for the Olympics, but was later replaced by the Queen herself.

A source close to the event's director, Oscar-winning Danny Boyle, has said that he had imagined Kate being a spoof Bond girl, to star alongside Daniel Craig but it was actually the Queen, who thought it would be great to get involved.

According to Showbiz Spy, a source has said: “Danny Boyle had originally envisioned Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, as the ‘Bond Girl’ in the spoof."

“Kate was extremely excited and eager to take the part and Prince William thought it was a great idea. But, as with any public event involving the Royal Family, Boyle’s idea had to be approved by palace officials — and he was flabbergasted when word came back that The Queen herself wanted to star with Craig in the spoof, nixing Kate from the role!

“It was sad for the Duchess, but Boyle and his producers were delirious with joy.

“They’d never dreamed The Queen would want to snatch the star part from Kate to become, at age 86……the oldest ‘Bond’ girl yet!"

This was some sort of knighthood for Daniel IMO. I don't hink, she would have done it with an actor she doesn't care for or dislikes. The ole gal has good taste still

Exactly. She is the absolute master of discretion, but she has her ways of letting people know when she is either amused or (like Victoria!) not amused.

She could not have been talked into it if she had not been keen, especially as they had Kate in their sights originally.

The fact that she actually pinched the role means that is one huge royal  for our man. 8)

Not surprising considering that two of her most staunch rules is to keep one's mouth shut in front of the press, and then get on with the job......both things that Daniel does very well.

This entire little video turned out so wonderful for everyone. The Queen was a terrific good sport to do it. Danny Boyle came off like a genius for thinking it up and getting all the OKs for it. And DC came off like a prince. It was perfectly conceived and executed. The British organizers did such a wonderful job with the entire Olympics event. It must be beyond difficult to mount something this complex and huge.
