It wasn't mentioned in the movie, there have been several discussions about that over at IMDB.
The only hint was that his mom said that she has to get used to sleeping alone when they moved into the other house.
But that could be because the old one was a small one and it had only three bedrooms.
Could be a good friend or maybe her sister in law.
