DC (real life) stories

Post by Germangirl »

This might die a fast death, but talking about the trunks, the Bafta incident and the pfa shot, I realized, that I often remember those little tidbits from my long time here and am sure, others do as well. I feel, it might be nice to hear for others, who don*t know them and which are often very telling about the man, he is.

So, feel free to add those here for the reading pleasure of all.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I can´t remember who told this.

After an Interview Daniel warned the interviewer to not stumble over the cables. You can hear it in the background

Sorry not to have a story and take up space, but GG, I LOVE this thread. Thank you! Your kick-off one (maybe it should be copied and pasted in your intro) was a great read.

I have one question. Not exactly what this thread is about but, on the cover page it says there were 103 online on July 1, 2007. I wonder why? Did something "big" happen to cause 103 people to come online at one time? Was it something to do with James Bond?
"It's when things are unclear and when you don't know what you're doing--that's when things are difficult." Daniel Craig

This may not be the kind of story that's meant for this thread, but it's a clip from a longer 9/2006 interview on the M16 site (from the Daily Record). It's a good read and reflects his much more successful life today.. http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?itemid=4356&catid=2

He worked on a tough physical regime to get in shape for Casino Royale, based on Ian Fleming's first book, and which is directed by Martin Campbell, who steered Brosnan to box-office glory with his first Bond movie, Golden Eye, a decade ago.

Pictures of Daniel looking buff coming out of the water in a pair of natty blue trunks had women's magazines all hot and bothered.

But does he have girls throwing themselves at him now?

He joked: "I have my girlfriend throwing herself at me occasionally.

"But it's not like I was trying to be sexy. I had to get fit because I had to be able to do stunts.

"I thought the only way to do that was to work out and get fit and buff and get physically into shape.

"Thank God I did, because I did as many of the stunts that I could - I got injured, I got hurt but I never missed a day of filming."

But it's usually Bond girls who we see enigmatically emerging from the water.

Daniel laughed: "Ursula Andress was before me. It was a little homage."

"I did a lot of weights. I wanted to bulk up quickly and so I had a lot of high protein diets and that sort of thing.

"By the time we got to the Bahamas, we kind of peaked, and that's where you see me walking out of the water. That was the peak of it, but we then kind of balanced it out."

Knowing he had to deliver a good Bond took its toll, and Daniel made sure he got drunk once aweek to unwind.

He said: "One night a week I drank myself stupid, which was important, otherwise I don't think I could have gotten through the film. I had to separate myself from the movie at least once a week and eat anything, eat cream cakes and just pig out."

Brosnan used to claim that the first film he saw in a cinema was a Bond movie.

Daniel played the same card. He explained: "When I went to the cinema for the first time it was Roger Moore's Live and Let Die. But Sean Connery defined the role. One of my favourite movies is From Russia with Love, particularly because it's with Robert Shaw. He plays the bad guy, and he's blond."

Daniel, who has signed a three-picture deal to play Bond, claims that he hasn't given it much thought yet.

He added: "If this does well, then I'll be making money. I'd love to have the money to buy art. I don't have an Aston Martin either, but I'd like one."

^ That certainly throws some light on our earlier discussions on his drinking and smoking and stuff during role prep.
The way he was so strict with himself to get into shape has got to be admired. I like the part where he lets go once a week. Something to look forward to for him at the end of the week - makes it easier to get thru the tough routine, I guess.

^ It sounds like working for Fincher is no cake walk, and the story is equally intense. It makes sense to me that he would intentionally repeat this pattern to unwind.

Hi Ray, that was a sunday and quiet. Its nothing like an error.

Nice - you like the thread. Will try to add some, when there is time. :D But normally they come to mind reading this or that...Thinking about it probably leaves me blank
I am sure, the "Oldies" here has tons of stuff, they could think of

Cool about the cables - shows, he cares for others - but we do know that :D..

I don't want to sound dense, but what is cream cake?

Daniel is a very modest man and yet a very forceful man. He is someone who is wonderfully self-deprecating, and yet seems to project enormous power. He is also a very soulful person but not revealed to be that right away, and I thought those qualities were particularly appropriate to who this man (Tuvia) was.

"I got to know him (Craig) a long time before this," he said. "I was an admirer of his based on the work he'd done as a working actor in independent movies. I knew that he would utterly commit himself to this character and he was so capable of disappearing into a role.

"What I didn't know was what a generous and modest man that he is, and how much of an ensemble-trained actor and how much of team player he is. I can think of a few other actors - and I won't name names - who if they were playing the role, we'd still be in Lithuania."
(Edward Zwick)

Ann Reid about Daniel (The Mother)

Fortunately Daniel is an old hand at this, and he looked after me. He was very, very kind. He was very sensitive, and not in the least bit fazed by it all. He knows what happens in these things, and there's nobody else in the world that I'd rather have done those scenes with. He's a beautiful young man and a beautiful actor. I think he was very brave too. The idea of getting into bed with an old bird like me must have been a bit daunting. It could all have been very tacky - we might have put people off their tea!

Helen McCrory about Daniel:
I worked with him about ten years ago. I am disappointed to say, he´s no different. He could be doing any single film he wants to but he´s doing an indie film instead. I think, that says a lot about him and what he is doing with his career.

QoS Premiere Sydney
Now Daniel Craig I was very impressed with. He got the press over and done with in five to ten minutes and promised to come back and he signed every single person up the front who held out a photo or book and a pen and even stepped back to a couple he missed a few times. Everyone was screaming "Daniel!" on the other side and he jokingly said "All right!" We exchanged pleasantries for about thirty seconds I think and I told him I was very much excited about the movie and so on and he took my big camera and joked about it being a lot bigger than the other tiny digital cameras there and he could not find the button to take the photo but eventually did. He "MySpace style" took the photograph and said it looked good. Steve's eye is in the background. We said something else which I do not remember and then I asked if I could shake his hand so with my left hand I shook his right hand, which had my permanent marker in it! I then swapped my photo to my other hand and he swapped his hand and it ended up being left hand to left hand, to which the other fans were laughing. He then walked to my friend and then realized he was still holding my camera and joked "I'll just take this with me" and gave it back. He took another "MySpace" photo with another of my friends and shook people's hands without anything to autograph. Craig was also impressed another of my friends mentioned he loved his work in "Infamous" and Craig thanked him and also thanked him for coming out to see him on the red carpet. He went to the fans in the furthest corner too, completely away from the press so he was extreamly genuine and he had the most piercing blue eyes I have ever seen, even more so than in his films. He spent about half an hour to forty-five minutes with fans and as I said above, only five to ten minutes with the media.

He was very classy and oozed cool. I was thoroughly impressed and he might even be my favorite Bond now.

Nick Reding: “The thing about Daniel is he`s one of the most evolved people I`ve ever met. His compassion and his understanding of other people is always spot on. You say one tiny thing to him and he gets it immediately. He`s one of the nicest people on the planet, without any question.”

Interviewer: '…after about an hour, I start to wonder about Craig. Talented, handsome, great company…He`s almost too good to be true. Maybe he`s just pulling thespian wool over my eyes. So I switch off the tape recorder, but he`s even more entertaining off the record…'

Martin Campbell: 'There`s a strange paradox in Daniel. He`s kind and gentle and lovable, and at the same time there`s a simmering lunacy just below the surface, something bad and dangerous. That`s what makes him so intriguing to watch.'

Interviewer: 'The first time I met DC was on the set of Enduring Love in 2003. The set, the tiny London Review Bookshop, was filled to bursting with cast and crew, but all eyes were on Craig. It was as if no one else existed in the room.
