Jack White writes music for Coca-Cola James Bond `Quantum of Solace` ad
Quantum Of Solace - 11-09-08
Coca-Cola is to launch a global TV campaign in a tie-up with James Bond film Quantum of Solace with music by White Stripes frontman Jack White, reports the Guardian (click here to view the video online).
The TV and cinema ad is an homage to the Bond movie franchise's highly stylised pre-credit sequences.
White has also collaborated with Alicia Keys on the Quantum of Solace theme tune, Another Way To Die.
The ad is part of an integrated campaign that includes the rebranding of Coke Zero as Zero Zero 7 to reflect Bond's 007 code name.
Coke's commercial has been made in the distinctive red and black of Coke Zero – also a colour scheme used in the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army video.
In the ad Bond battles villains and pursues a woman in an effort to recover a bottle of Coke Zero.
Coke's new campaign, developed by ad agency Wieden & Kennedy, will run in more than 30 markets worldwide.
The ad will break in the UK in mid-September ahead of the premier of the movie on October 31.
Bobby Brittain, the brand director for Coca-Cola Great Britain, said that the campaign "combines the drama of James Bond with the essence of Coca-Cola Zero in a stylish and contemporary fashion".
Coca-Cola's multimillion pound campaign, the largest ever to support Coke Zero, includes a tie-up with Mohamed Al Fayed's department store Harrods.
Bond fans will be able to pick up a limited edition Quantum of Solace bottle featuring the famous gun barrel and an image of James Bond in a pose with silhouetted Bond girls.
A tie-up with games firm Activision is in the pipeline for an exclusive demo download of the official 'Quantum of Solace' game.

007 Quantum of Solace 2008-Coke Zero Trailer

Quantum of Solace (2008) - "Coke Zero Trailer" [HIGH QUALITY] 007 James Bond. Daniel Craig
Did Jack White write the score? I wonder if it's anything like the Quantum of Solace movie score.
ETA, from another video link:
Coke Zero has debuted a new commercial featuring the musical stylings of Jack White of the White Stripes giving us an instrumental taste of the new James Bond theme from Quantum of Solace.
It's good, a little repetitive, but maybe that's just for the commercial.

David Arnold Audio Interview: Scoring 'Quantum of Solace'
'It's a tighter, darker, much quicker film, so the music needs to reflect that...'
Written by Devin Zydel on 13 Sep, 2008
David Arnold
Following up their magnificent three-part David Arnold interview (here and here) recorded late last year, Stage & Screen Online are back with an exclusive discussion with the man behind the music of James Bond.
Recorded at the scoring stage for Quantum of Solace, this audio interview between Tommy Pearson and Arnold took place just as work was wrapping up on the score for the film.
‘We’ve got today and we’ve got tomorrow,’ Arnold says. ‘It’s been going very well, actually. I guess it’s a bit more unusual in that the music and the film are either incredibly dark and ambiguous, you know with the whole issue of who you can or can’t trust, and then it’s very explosive. It follows Bond’s shape more than anything.’
He continues: ‘With Daniel [Craig] in this one, there’s not only the revenge thing going on, but there’s also a lot of suspicion as to who is doing what and why they’re doing it and who it is that he can put his faith in. And he ends up being able to trust only one or two people, and even they become slightly suspicious as the film evolves. It’s quite a tricky situation he’s put himself in this time. It’s not black and white and you’re not sure where the bad part is coming from. We know that Greene is apart of something that is much bigger, the same way that [Casino Royale’s] Le Chiffre was, but I think everyone knows that it’s not just about him; that he’s just the latest figurehead that represents an ongoing problem with this organization called Quantum.’
‘It struck me from the beginning while reading the script that Vesper should cast a shadow over him and that whenever we can, we should be reminded in these moments of silence that is what he’s thinking about.’ - David Arnold
‘Originally, I thought I would write something for Greene, a kind of Greene theme, and eventually I realized the thing to do was actually to write something for the organization, to write something for Quantum. The organization is sort of all-pervasive and kind of has slippery, oily tentacles in lots of different places where you hadn’t expected them to be…’
Quantum of Solace
Arnold also confirmed the strong performance of Craig as Bond as an influence on the film’s music. ‘A lot of it is still Daniel’s performance which defines him in this film, but now we know him a little bit better and we know a little bit of the background between him and the organization that Le Chiffre worked for and now Greene is kind of the figurehead of.’
He adds: ‘It’s more about—and this is where Marc Forster’s influence is probably more obvious—in that we sort of describe the internal goings-on rather than the external. We try and figure out what’s going on underneath. It’s a much more organic, dark, introspective and kind of ambiguous sound in some of these sequences that I’ve used. There’s very organic-sounding synthetic elements. Whereas normally you might have cellos and basses, we have deep, dark, throbbing electronic sound with real strings and violins over the top. In other occasions, we have the orchestra providing the bottom-end and some uncomfortable, ugly top-end stuff going on. So it’s a much more ambiguous kind of score and unsettling in some places.’
‘In this film, we try and get much more internal. We try and figure out what’s going on underneath.’ - David Arnold
‘And of course, you have the action sequences which need to be propulsive and energetic and all the things they need to be. So, they’re still there and there’s still a couple of grand Bond-arriving moments, but it’s very different. It’s a tighter, darker, much quicker film, so the music needs to reflect that is what’s happening.’
There’s much more. Visit Stage & Screen Online to listen to the entire David Arnold interview.

The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

First review of Jack White and Alicia Keys, Another Way to Die
Quantum Of Solace - 14-09-08
The Guardian scores the first review of "Another Way To Die", the new title song to the 22nd James Bond film "Quantum of Solace".
Bond is back (again), this time with a proper theme. Quantum of Solace gets a White-penned Southern rock'n'soul potboiler, with the Memphis Horns and two feline vocals helping recall the franchise's musical golden days.
Sings Jack: 'I know the player with the slick trigger finger for Her Majesty ... ' Sings Alicia: 'Another one with the golden tone voice and then your fantasy ... '

Bond director finds solace in title of next installment
Quantum Of Solace - 14-09-08
First things first on the new Bond movie, Quantum of Solace: Director Marc Forster initially disliked the title, too - reports Canada.com.
"Then it started growing on me," Forster says. "I read the Ian Fleming short story where it comes from, and there's a great passage in it when Bond talks (about) that quantum of solace, a quantum of comforting someone."
The title aroused much discussion, and Forster said he thinks it might be a positive thing for the movie. Not that Bond needs much help these days. The 2006 franchise reboot grossed nearly $600 million worldwide and went a long way in making Bond relevant for the 21st century.
If hiring Daniel Craig to play Bond was the gamble last time, putting Forster in the director's chair is Quantum's creative risk. The German-born director has a varied resumé (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction) that includes just about everything save an action movie. But Forster made a connection between making a franchise film and working within the tight parameters of storytelling under a repressive regime.
"I felt like the challenge here was similar. You are working within a framework of the Bond franchise. You have the villain, the girls and so on, things the fans expect and want."

Will the the Daniel Craig and Marc Forster interview be in this week? You know, Ask a question from them.
Well - there was an "opening event" in Baltimore. Not sure why they buried it, must have had serious doubts about success here?ad78472 wrote:I think the US premiere will be bigger than Casino Royale's. Its indeed part of the track but I still dont know whhat to think of it right now so Ill better wait til the whole thing with vocals appears... The sound is familiar to me White's Stripes and Racounters sound+some bits of classical Bind vibe. Actually I expected smth more original...JoniJoni wrote:007 Quantum of Solace 2008-Coke Zero Trailer
