007 star's long lost song

Post by mickey01 »

Hi everyone,

Just found this - Although it would be nice to hear this I'm glad they didn't exploit him - so easy to do to him so I'm glad they had decency:

007 star's long lost song

A SONG recorded by James Bond star Daniel Craig when he was in school 24 years ago has been re-discovered in a Wirral recording studio.

The cover version of The Animals' 1964 hit House Of The Rising Sun features Hilbre School pupil Daniel, then aged 15, and classmates who had formed a band called Inner Voices in 1983.

They were about to enter a national competition run by the Trustees Savings Bank and the school agreed to let them go into a professional studio in Oxton to record their chosen song.

It was produced and financed by fellow pupil Alan Fennah. At the end of the session each member of the band took home a cassette and Alan was presented with the master tape that he duly filed away.

The group didn't win the competition and on leaving school went their separate ways. As for the master tape, it went missing and was never seen again. That is, until a few weeks ago.

Alan and older brother Rob, musicians and owners of Pulse Records and Productions Ltd in Birkenhead, had borrowed an old reel-to-reel tape recorder to review some of their early demo recordings. Three hours into the session Alan pressed the 'play' button and blasting from the speakers was Daniel and House of the Rising Sun. All those years ago Alan had put the tape in the wrong box.

Brother Rob, who has since sent the master tape off to Daniel together with a cover letter giving the 007 star full production rights, told the Globe: "Since the tape was discovered we've had three national papers offering us thousands of pounds for it. It was very tempting, and we could have easily used the track as a download on our website for £1 each, but after the original 'wow' factor on finding the tape we realised that it wouldn't be right to exploit Daniel like that.

"I would imagine that Bond fans would be very interested in this recording, but I certainly think it would be unfair to cash in on something that we did 24 years ago, just because Daniel's the new James Bond."

The group also featured Adam Brierley on keyboards, Paul Donnelly on drums, Alan's brother Andy on rhythm guitar and lead guitarist Paul King.

Looking back to the day that it was recorded Alan recalled: "The four-minute song took all day to record. Daniel was the quietest member of the band, but he really came alive when he started singing. The band had never played in a studio before, but they did a very good job."

Ooh, interesting!

So DC obviously does have some background in music. Maybe he would do more singing on screen then?

I would love to hear that tape, just for pure comedial value - imagine what a group of teenagers produced years ago!! :D

aww, it's lovely to find that not everyone in the world is a complete money-grabbing leach. Well done to them, true gents! =D> Much as it would have been interesting to hear It will have to remain a tantalizing mystery. And sending Daniel the master tape, very sweet :D

It's nice to see people with integrity, isn't it?

I hope Daniel lets us hear it anyway. :) Now, if DC had his official website, maybe he could have let us download it for $1 each and the proceeds go to charity or something. :) Daniel and charity all rolled up into one and at a price I could afford! :)

OMG what a great story! In some interview one of his buddies said that they had a band and Dan was the singer, but he didn't mention they were good enough to enter competitions.
It's good to hear that his old friends are so loyal and considerate. Respect! 8)

I love that! He was quite until he started to sing and then he came a live! That would have been fun to watch! His quietness obviously can not be miscontrured as shy. It takes guts to sing alone on stage!

Oh how badly I want to hear that track...but I always knew he could sing! With a voice so beautiful even when he's talking...*mind wanders* "Welcome to dreamland. Population, me."

Good on those guys - not giving in to temptation and taking the money...love that.

Daniel sang "Papa was a rolling stone" in Munich - purposely flat...it was funny but then I heard "Goldmine in the Sky" and was surprised by his heartfelt rendition.

I fell in love with and married a musician and he serenaded me with his guitar - so the thought of Daniel singing - just rings every bell for me. Cheers!

Cudos to them =D> =D> \:D/ \:D/ he deserves some decent people around him.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I wonder if his publicist combs the net for all stories concerning him and lets him know what's out there. He probably does know about the tape by now. Being so humble and self-effacing, he probably wouldn't even put it out there for anybody to buy. I can see him chucking it in the closet or something . . . behind some socks. :)

Great story! And that's a great song BTW, I'd love to hear it, but maybe someday when Daniel realizes we're not so scary after all and decides to share with us. We can dream, can't we?
