That smile is so geniune. I think it's sad he didn't have more children....but maybe nature or circumstances have conspired against him, or he just didn't want anymore.

I just think he looks so natural and at ease with babies.

For this scene all he has to do is remember the day Ella was born and the smile would come naturally!

Maybe at that day he was more scared than happy. Probably both...
Two young people, not really earning any money with their work having a child to support - not all that happy a thought...
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

Yes, I bet he was scared before she was born and after. But at that moment, when he first held her, all of the fear goes away and the love floods everything else out.

Very true JEC. I think a baby just is too much. Dan wouldn't want to carry it all over the world. But he also wouldn't want to stay at home all the time. IMO Dan and Sats agreed on no children although it probably hurted.

That's the key......."without fanfare".

He does it as a kindness, and to use his name in a generous way to give others pleasure.

So many would use this as a publicity stunt, but not Daniel.

well said, he just goes ahead and does it, nothing heard in the newspapers or anything, just from the people he visits. Lovely it warms my heart to see it.
