The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

That doesn't really look like a frown to me
It looks like he just stepped out of a dark building and didn't realize how bright it was outside
Does this count as a frown, or is it just regular grumpy old Asriel?

Or probably the director said "You see that huge torpedo Daniel? You will be strapped on it, it will be launched, and then it will fly that way, so you must escape and stand on top of it as it flies THAT way and just remember the 007 tune in your head as you double summersault to the ground whilst holding the gun like this.
